Fee billing review before the examiner asks

Fee billing runs on a schedule set up years ago, with exceptions added by hand ever since. Breakpoints depend on householding that changes, accounts close and keep their fee, and an internal transfer gets billed on both sides. We compare what you billed against your fee schedules and the custodian files you already receive, every account, every quarter, and give you the list before anyone else finds it.

In June 2026 the SEC's exam staff reported advisers charging incorrect fee rates, missing householding breakpoints, billing inactive accounts, and billing twice after internal asset transfers. SEC Division of Examinations, June 9, 2026

Sound familiar?

What we hear on the first call, in the words people use.

  • Fee rates in the billing system no longer match the signed agreements.
  • Householding changed and the breakpoint did not.
  • Closed or inactive accounts are still being charged.
  • An internal transfer was billed in both accounts the same quarter.
  • A custodian feed went quiet and nobody noticed until the billing run.

What we build

Built in your accounts, read-only first. Each piece can be adopted on its own.

Quarterly fee billing review

Billed fees recalculated from your fee schedules and the custodian files you already receive, account by account, with every difference listed and priced.

Billing reconciliation: $2,400

Custodian feed watchdog

The daily files checked for arrival and completeness, so a missing feed is found before the billing run, not after.

Connector watchdog: $150/mo

CRM and portfolio system kept in agreement

Households, accounts and contacts matched across your CRM and your portfolio system, with every change logged.

System integration and workflow automation: From $3,000

What it looks like

Kettlefen Wealth Partners is fictional. The method is the one we run in production.

A fictional adviser. The quarterly review recalculates each account's fee from its schedule and the custodian's quarter-end values, then lists the differences: a household whose breakpoint was never applied, two closed accounts still billed, and a transfer charged on both sides.

Proof

From production systems, described without client names. Numbers are rounded.

Six figures a year on one account

The same matching engine found under-billing on a single account tree in telecom.

Audits from hours to minutes

Two to four hours per account down to under five minutes.

Read-only, in your accounts

The review runs on your systems with read access only. We store no client data.

What we do not do. We are not a custodian-approved data vendor and do not connect to custodians directly. The review works from the files and reports your firm already receives. We do not provide compliance or legal advice.

Our commitment

Written into every proposal.

The price in the proposal is the price you pay

Fixed prices are fixed. If the work turns out bigger than we scoped, that is our problem, not a change order.

Walk away by day 7

If the first week does not convince you, stop by day 7 and you owe nothing. Anything we built so far stays in your accounts.

You keep everything

Code, documentation and credentials live in your accounts from day one. No licence fee, no lock-in, managed support cancellable any month.

Questions

How we handle access and data is on the security page. Anything else, write to hello@tightlywired.com.

Do you need access to the custodian?
No. The review uses the files and reports your firm already receives from the custodian, plus your billing system's export and your fee schedules.
Where does the data go?
Nowhere. The review runs in your environment with read-only access, and we keep no copy of client data. See our security page for the full list and the due-diligence pack your vendor questionnaire will ask for.
Is this a compliance review?
No. It finds billing differences and shows the line behind each one. What you do about them is your compliance team's call.
